GRAND VALLEY BASEBALL LOSES OUT

Grand Valley baseball lost in the latest match 7-6 to the Sonoma State. In the second inning Sunday, Cory Phillips hit a double that drove in two runs to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. Sonoma State, located in California, rallied with a four-run fifth, and the teams later traded leads before the Seawolves won in the bottom of the 11th with a single to right.

BOWLING: Brian Thompson of Flat Rock averaged 232.3 to overtake first-round leader Lennie Boresch Jr. at the end of qualifying in the PBA Regional Players Championship-East at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. Thompson advanced to today's single-elimination match-play finals after finishing the 16-game qualifying round with 3,717 pins.
